If you really like it, purchase a yard. A fat quarter will never do.

If you really really like it, purchase 2 yards. It can be your focus fabric.

If you really really really like it, purchase 3 yards. It can be your border fabric

Borders for a large quilt cut on the lengthwise grain take 3 to 3 1/2 yards. Then you have no seams in your pretty border fabric.

Bindings cut 2 1/2" usually take 1 yard of fabric for a double, queen or king and 3/4 yards for a lap.

Backing fabric: 5-6 yards for double, 6-9 yards for queen and king 9-10 yards.
