Suzanne's Tip of the Week - Quilt Labels
 |
Labeling your quilt is so important for documenting the history and value of your quilt. Labels can be made with an embroidery machine, hand embroidery and handwriting. Most of us don't label our quilts because we want it quick and easy so we can go on to other quilts.
You can make your own quilt labels very easily using your computers and ink jet printer. Design your label in Word or Publisher. Play around with the fancy fonts and clip art. A normal size label is usually 1/4 the size of a sheet of paper, so go ahead and make labels for some of your other quilts and UFO's. Insert an ink jet fabric sheet into your printer and print your label in seconds.
I like to use the Ink Jet Fabrics Sheets from Electric Quilt. Once the sheet is printed allow to dry for 15 mins. Peel off the plastic backing. Soak in room temperature water for 10 minutes. Gently rinse. Lay flat to dry. Cut and sew on to your quilt.
Happy Quilting,
Suzanne
P.S. Make sure you put your full name on the label. Then your great granddaughter will know which grandma made the quilt. |
