During the Great Depression, thrifty housewives bought cloth bags of flour, sugar, chicken feed and other household staples. Then they recycled the cotton cloth into dishtowels, curtains, clothing and quilt scraps. The manufacturers who made the bags caught on and began printing feedsacks in bright colors and prints to catch the housewives' eye and to sell their products. Today feedsacks have been replaced by plastic, paper and cardboard containers, but they live on in this reproduction fabric that captures the eye catching designs once used to sell chicken feed.
